Gun Wairarapa Muay Thai exponent Cody Tomuri has been eliminated at the IFMA world championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, but there was no disgrace in the defeat.
Tomuri drew the highly rated Bulgarian Atanasov Nikolay in his first fight and despite putting up a brave show lost on a points decision.
Returning home this week, Tomuri will prepare for the Extreme FI WMC Muay Thai four-man competition in Nelson on October 8.
Another Featherston Muay Thai club member, Terry Cremen, will also take part. Tomuri is in the 70kg division, Cremen in the 65kg division, and they will fight under full Muay Thai rules which allow elbows and knees to the head.
If they win their divisions they will qualify for the finals on November 19, the winners of which will face their Australian counterparts for the Oceania Cup.
