Delays are possible for southbound users of the toll road north of Auckland after one of the two pay kiosks was destroyed overnight.
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) said it appeared the vandals had tried to steal both pay kiosks at Puhoi, at the north end of the Northern Gateway toll road.
One of the machines was destroyed, while the second has been repaired.
"With only one machine operating, there is a risk of delays if the kiosk develops a fault," NZTA said in a statement today.
Police have been contacted about the incident.
Drivers have other ways of paying the tolls, including online at www.tollroad.govt.nz, or freephone on 0800 402020.
