One person is dead and another is fighting for their life after a house fire in Tokoroa this evening.
Emergency services received calls about the fire on Dalmeny St in the southern Waikato town about 6.40pm.
Northern fire communications shift manager Dallas Ramsay said multiple calls were received about the blaze, that was "well involved" by the time crews arrived.
"We got advised early on that one person was believed to still be inside and one person had been taken to hospital by ambulance, we have since been advised that there is confirmed to be one fatality," she said.
St John Ambulance northern communications team manager Lauren Smith said one patient of an unknown age and gender had been transported in a critical condition to Tokoroa Hospital.
