A small fire this morning in a toilet block at a south Auckland school produced black smoke as students there prepared to sit exams.
Toilet paper was set alight in the boys' toilets at Otahuhu College just before 9am, and acrid smoke was produced when the flames spread to a plastic toilet roll holder.
An Ambulance spokeswoman said one person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene but did not require hospitalisation.
Principal Gil Laurenson said students and staff filed onto the tennis courts while firefighters dealt with the fire.
Senior students were understood to have been anxious that their NCEA exams would be delayed as a result but there was no disruption to exams.
