Otago University has reviewed video footage of last month's orientation week toga parade and those spotted behaving badly will face disciplinary action, vice-chancellor Professor David Skegg said.
Two thousand first year students took to Dunedin's George Street on February 24 with bystanders being pelted with eggs, windows smashed and rubbish covering the ground.
Dunedin retailers have called for the annual parade to be banned and some have sent cleaning bills to the Otago University Students Association after the event ended in chaos.
Prof Skegg said a number of perpetrators had been identified and would be sent before the university's proctor.
They could face expulsion or be made to pay compensation for damages up to $5000.
A university spokesperson said police were conducting a separate investigation and had arrested three people.
