KEY POINTS:
Blood and toxicology tests will be done over the weekend to discover what killed a 16-month-old boy.
An earlier post-mortem examination did not establish a cause of death. The boy was found dead at a Manukau City address early yesterday.
Investigating detectives say they are running further tests, including blood and toxicology, to see if they can find any reason for the death.
Police were called to the Te Irirangi Drive home in Flat Bush at 3.05am by St John Ambulance staff who reported that the boy was not breathing.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two people who arrived about 8.30am to find a security cordon were arrested after becoming aggressive when they were not allowed in.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Gutry said the boy's parents were co-operating with the police.
He said seven adults were in the home at the time, including the parents. The group had been drinking alcohol during the night and that had initially led to difficulties getting information. All were being spoken to by the police.
It was likely the death would be referred to the coroner.
