KEY POINTS:
A three-year-old boy remained in a critical condition in Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital today as a police probe tried to find out how he got his head injuries.
The child was admitted to hospital on Monday and put into a drug-induced coma in the intensive care unit of the hospital where doctors feared he could die.
The boy also had several fractures to his pelvis and internal bleeding.
Yesterday police examined the boy's family home in the Auckland suburb of Avondale. His parents had been banned from visiting him in hospital and his five siblings had been moved from the home to a safe and secure environment by Child Youth and Family
He was taken to hospital after family members consulted other relatives. Police were called soon after he was admitted and said it appeared the child received his injuries while he was in the care of his family.
