Police are investigating the death of a toddler who died mysteriously in his sleep while in daycare.
Two-year-old James Kereama failed to wake from his afternoon nap at an ABC Childcare Centre in Rotorua on Wednesday.
St John ambulance staff tried to revive James at the Monokia St centre but the young boy was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Wilson, of Rotorua police, said the death was being treated as unexplained, not suspicious.
ABC communications director Liane Clarke said James' death was a tragedy and the childcare company had a tapu noa (blessing) for him yesterday.
