A toddler remains in a critical condition with multiple injuries following a serious assault in a suburban Tauranga home.
Detective sergeant Greg Turner of the Tauranga police said ambulance staff attended a call in the suburb of Hairini in the middle of the day and found the child unconscious on Tuesday.
The girl, aged two years, eight months, was transferred to Starship Hospital in Auckland where she remains in a critical condition, with multiple injuries.
Mr Turner said police had interviewed several people who had contact with the girl in the past week.
A scene examination by police and ESR staff from Auckland continues, with other police staff making enquires with neighbours today.
