It will be the clash of the titans when Dalefield and Indians meet in a Wellington premier division women's hockey match in Wellington tomorrow.
The two teams share the competition lead with 16pts apiece although Dalefield lead on goal difference, having scored 21 goals and conceded 13, while Indians have scored 17 goals and conceded 11.
The first round clash saw Dalefield win comfortably at home, but coach Kim Henson is the first to concede that Indians are likely to be a much tougher proposition on this occasion.
Under the supervision of assistant Black Sticks coach Chris Leslie, they have shown improvement from game to game with their usual flair now being combined with a more structured approach..
Henson believes a strong start will be crucial for Dalefield, as while in most of their past games they have been able to recover from early deficits, Indians would be a different story in that regard.
"If they (Indians) get a couple of goals up they are the sort of team which won't give away that advantage," he said. "We have to put them on the back foot rather than the other way around."
Henson said a win tomorrow would also ease concerns over Dalefield's away record which sees them yet to be win on foreign territory.
The Dalefield men's team is also playing Indians in their Wellington premier division match in Wellington tomorrow, with the form book suggesting Indians will start hot favourites. They sit second in the competition with 14pts, while Dalefield are at the bottom of the table, having lost all five of their matches to date.
Meanwhile, the Wairarapa under-15 boys team indicated they could be a threat at their national tournament in Albany in July, when they won a regional tourney in Palmerston North.
They beat Hawke's Bay 4-2 and Taranaki 9-2, before coming from 2-3 down to beat Wellington 4-3 in the final. Outstanding players were Ryan Pauling, Shane Hodgkiss, Thomas Annear, Ben Poole and Bryden Hanson.
