Fisher & Paykel is promising life after death for old appliances this weekend, by hosting a recycling open day.
The company is asking people to dump inefficient appliances at its East Tamaki plant tomorrow.
Tens of thousands of appliances are thrown into rubbish dumps each year. Last weekend, recycling days in Wellington and Christchurch saved more than 18.5 tonnes of waste from going to the tip. .
Aucklanders can dispose of refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers and other appliances for no cost from 8am to 4pm.
Outside of the open day, the plant is open for appliance recycling daily, and 2400 tonnes of parts are recovered and reprocessed each year.
