Bird catchers will be out in the Auckland suburb of Glendowie today after a runaway kokako was discovered a fortnight ago.
Duncan the kokako was presumed dead after disappearing from the Ark in the Park reserve in Waitakere two years ago.
Forest and Bird volunteer coordinator Jane Ferguson said kokako experts from the Department of Conservation and Tiritiri Matangi Island will suspend a net between two poles.
She hopes that with the net in the right position, Duncan won't see it and he will fly into it.
