The Waikato region has 21 contaminated timber treatment plants that could cause health problems and more than 200 other sites are still to be investigated, Environment Waikato data shows.
The regional council has 225 timber plants around the Waikato to investigate. Most are in South Waikato (43), Hamilton (35), Taupo (33), Waipa (27) and Thames-Coromandel (23).
