A large fire at a Canterbury timber plant this morning has been contained, the Fire Service says.
Nine fire appliances were called to the blaze at Sutherland Timber in Ohoka Rd, Kaiapoi, 19km north of Christchurch, about 6.20am, fire southern communications shift manager Karl Patterson said.
The fire, in the main building and adjoining boiler, caused "pretty significant" damage, he said.
"The fire is pretty much contained, they're just ascertaining what, if any chemicals where involved."
Mr Patterson said there were no reports of injuries and it was not yet clear what caused the blaze.
