KEY POINTS:
National MP Bob Clarkson's campaign against tin-based timber treatment appears to be having an effect - a company has decided to stop supplying it.
Mr Clarkson said Arch Wood Protection had decided not to use tin-based products treated with light organic solvent preservatives (LOSP). It would instead promote the use of the treatment Azole.
"I am really pleased that Arch Wood has taken the initiative and stopped the supply of this treatment," he said. "Now I call on other suppliers to do the right thing. The less-toxic alternative is becoming more and more cost-effective and should be promoted."
Mr Clarkson has been calling for an inquiry into health and environmental risks associated with the treatment, which has been banned in the United States.
