A titanic struggle is in prospect when Masterton and Martinborough meet in the final of the Wairarapa Tennis Association's Gawith Shield regional one competition at the Masterton Tennis Centre tomorrow.
Four clashes between the two sides so far this season have produced two wins apiece with their most recent encounter coming just last weekend when Masterton sneaked home 5-4.
That result illustrated just how even the sides are in terms of playing resources in both the men's and women's sections.
Masterton , in particular, have experience to burn with Geoff McKay, Mike Jackson, Steve Hurley, Barbara Hollings, Lorraine Liggins and Margaret Goodall all having played at the top level on the club scene for a long number of years.
Martinborough are likely to have a big Dutch influence in their men's section through Marco De Grooot and Wilco Lam with seasoned campaigner Andy Darling joining them there.
Rhona Lovell, Libby Paterson and Natasha Robinson made up their women's sectipon last weekend and will probably do so again although former Central Districts rep Leanne Sweeney is a possible starter as well.
Playing off for the regional two men's title will be Gladstone No.1 and Opaki while the regional two women's finalists are Masterton and Opaki.
The doubles competition decider will be between Greytown and Masterton.
All finals will be at the Masterton Tennis Centre, starting at 12.30pm. Prize giving will commence there at 7pm.
