KEY POINTS:
People have stopped Devonport Community Board chairman Mike Cohen in the street to express concerns about the impact of the stadium on their views across the harbour towards the Auckland waterfront.
"We have spent years trying to improve the seascape and opening up the waterfront," Mr Cohen said.
"If they put something up like the Sydney Opera House with some style and elegance, it would be different but they are putting up a basin and - if one of its features is the good TV shots looking out - it does not say much for the residents of Devonport who have to look at the monstrosity every day. It's an urban landscape disaster."
Devonport residents successfully fought a 2002 plan to build a floating dock 100m long by 40m wide and 26m high at the Naval Dockyard.
Mr Cohen said harbour views would be affected for Devonport and Stanley Pt homes and also from North Head and Mt Victoria, which offered some of the best views in Auckland.
He said residents were also concerned at noise travelling from the stadium across the water.
"This could be nothing on Western Springs Speedway."
