Mitsubishi calls its latest concept vehicle the super sports utility. It says it has the performance of the 3000GT sports car and the strength of its rally winning four-wheel-drive Pajero.
That's why it is aiming it at what it calls America's "adrenalin junkies." The vehicle is powered by a 2.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine producing about 200kW and mated to either an automatic or clutchless transmission. Electronic gizmos include active yaw control borrowed from the Evo V.
The suspension system is a multi-link setup on all four wheels which, coupled with huge 295/50R20 tyres on 20-inch rims, gives the vehicle ground clearance of 260mm.
The wheelbase is 2835mm and overall length 4600mm.
Mitsubishi says interior space is similar to that of the four-wheel-drive Challenger, but the centre-opening doors in place of a B pillar make for easy entry. The vertical headlights and huge round driving lights give the study car an aggressive front styling.
