Three-year-old invites police to her birthday party

A 111 call from a Hamilton 3-year-old had a surprising outcome last week.

Adorable pre-schooler Rayana Bhati had a very important emergency for police officers to respond to - her birthday party. Kiran Bhati, her mother, shared the moment when Rayana decided her parents and her uncle were not enough for the occasion.

"She just took the phone and rang the police," her mother explained.

The July 3 party was going to be a small affair only involving her mother, her father, her mother's brother, and a police-themed cake gifted to her by her aunt.

It was then Rayana took it upon herself to expand the birthday invite list to include two off-duty officers, constables Thomas Pearce and Shannon Bowden.

Pearce and Bowden are part of the Youth Services division, assigned with the very important task of attending Rayana's birthday party.

In the video supplied by Rayana's father, Rahul Bhati, Pearce could be seen helping Rayana cut her cake.

Her mother explained how the birthday girl was quite shy when the two policemen first arrived but slowly warmed up once they started asking questions about her school and her Minnie Mouse toy.

"They only spent about 10 to 15 minutes at her party because by the time they arrived it was around 6pm and it was already quite cold and dark on a Friday evening," her mother said, "but they still manage to sing her 'Happy Birthday', help her cut her cake and let her sit in the police car."

Due to the shortness of the visit, the police also visited Rayana's daycare on Tuesday morning and fielded questions from children age 3-5 about what it was like to be part of the police force.

"It was good to meet the kids, meet the members of the community," Pearce shared.

"It was cool to see kids who were interested in the police."
