Three-year-old birthday boy chokes to death

A birthday party turned to tragedy in Greenmeadows when a three-year-old boy died after choking on a sweet on Saturday afternoon.

The boy, who turned three in March, was having a party with friends and family to celebrate his belated birthday about 2pm.

Senior Sergeant Mal Lochrie said the boy began choking and ran inside to his mother.

Family called an ambulance, but paramedics were unable to revive the boy.

Mr Lochrie said it was believed the boy choked on a sweet.

His death would be referred to a coroner.
