Three people received treatment after inhaling toxic fumes from a chemical spill in Lower Hutt this morning.
The poisonous gas formed after containers of sodium hypo-chloride and the herbicide Roundup leaked at the XL Corporation building on Hutt Park Rd.
Fire services were alerted to the spill about 8.30am, Fire communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said.
The scene was cordoned off for over two hours while firefighters from three fire engines and a hazardous materials appliance cleaned up the chemicals and re-sealed the containers.
Three people were treated at the scene by ambulance staff and discharged.
Staff were soon after allowed to return to the building.
