KEY POINTS:
Three people were thrown from their 4.2 metre aluminium boat when it up-turned near the Raglan bar this morning.
A man who works for Coast Guard in Raglan, but did not want to give his name, said the three men were heading out for a spot of fishing at 7.30am when their boat hit what was known as the northern spit.
The Coastguard official said the three men were spotted by another boat behind them and clung to their upturned boat while Coastguard responded.
A jetski from Coastguard was sent out before the Coastguard boats Harbour View Rescue and Cu E Tu arrived.
The fishermen's boat has also been recovered by Coastguard and towed into harbour.
St John Ambulance teamleader Keith Hall said the three people have been taken to the local medical centre by ambulance for a check-up.
