Police are investigating three suspicious fires within the space of an hour in the Dunedin area this morning.
The small fires, between 4.05 am to 5.15am, were likely to be linked, Dunedin senior fire station officer John Bethune said.
The first fire was at a public toilet at the corner of Hanover and Great King Streets, where plastic containers were set alight.
At about 5.00am, a small fire was started in a skip at the intersection of St Andrews and Cumberland Streets.
About 15 minutes later burning material was stuffed into the book return slot at the Dunedin Library, Mr Bethune said.
Police were investigating.
