David Hemopo, aged 31, unemployed of Carterton, is charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life.
The body of 23-month-old Hinewaoriki Karaitiana-Matiaha was delivered to Masterton Hospital by family members on July 23. The toddler had been bashed, scalded and sexually violated.
All evidence and the reasons given by police for opposing bail have been suppressed, but applications by the two women for name suppression were denied.
All three accused will reappear in court on October 9.
