Three new teams will contest the 2011 Netball Wairarapa premier one series which gets under way at the Colombo Rd courts on Saturday.
Martinborough and Trevs Sports 1 are newcomers to the top grade but Celtic actually won the title two seasons ago, only to withdraw last year when the playing schedule meant a number of their regular players were no longer available.
Harcourts were the dominant side in premier one play last year, going through the season undefeated, and they are back again, along with Pioneer Blue, NZCU Baywide Gladstone, Carterton New World and three college sides, Wairarapa, St Matthew's and Makoura.
Interestingly, both Martinborough and Carterton New World have the same coach with Kim Whiteman guiding the fortunes of both sides in a competition which will see one complete round of matches played before the top six sides compete for the main championship. The other four will be joined by the top two premier two sides and play off for the premier one reserve title.
This Saturday's draw is: Wairarapa College A v Pioneer Blue at 9am, St Matthew's v Harcourts at 10.30am, NZCU Baywide Gladstone v Makoura at noon, Martinborough v Celtic at noon, Carterton New World v Trevs Sports 1 at 1.30pm.
