KEY POINTS:
Ports of Auckland, which was disabled this week by a 48-hour strike by waterside workers, discovered late yesterday that it faces three more "rolling" stoppages.
The port company said last night it had received notification from the Maritime Union of a strike for three hours and 15 minutes on Monday, October 22. This came on top of earlier advice of intended stoppages of the same duration by 265 workers on Tuesday, and eight days after that.
Although the company would say only that it was working to ensure the strikes had "minimal impact on operations", managing director Jens Madsen has previously described such rolling action as unacceptable for the impact it will have on port customers and New Zealand's international trade.
