KEY POINTS:
Three men were killed on New Zealand roads this weekend.
A 16-year-old male was killed when the vehicle he was in crashed at 2.30pm yesterday on Flygers Line, north of Palmerston North.
Police said the teen had been a passenger in one of two vehicles travelling at speed on a straight piece of road when both cars swerved to avoid a cyclist.
One of the vehicles crashed into a drain and the 16-year-old who was fatally injured had been a rear seat passenger in that vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle received minor injuries and the cyclist was not injured, police said.
The serious crash unit was investigating the crash.
A man was killed in Rotorua at about 9.30pm on Saturday.
Police said speed was likely to have been a factor in the Amohau St crash.
The crash, which involved one vehicle with three occupants, was being investigated and police wanted to hear from any witnesses.
On Friday night a man was killed while trying to cross an Auckland motorway.
Police said it appeared the man attempted to run across Auckland's southern motorway at about 9pm Friday when he was hit by a southbound car.
The driver of the vehicle involved had been spoken to by police.
