Road carnage has claimed another three lives, and left two men critically ill in hospital.
Two men were killed in a two-car head-on crash on the State Highway about five kilometres north of Woodville .
Two others were airlifted from the scene of the crash.
It happened around 7pm on a section of road known as the Papatawa Overbridge.
A motorcyclist has been killed in an accident at Whenuapai, north-west of Auckland.
He suffered massive head injuries when his bike collided with a power pole on Brighams Creek Road.
He died at the scene.
