KEY POINTS:
The Independent Police Conduct Authority is investigating an incident in which three people were hospitalised after a police chase on the Kapiti Coast.
Inspector John Spence of Porirua said police noticed a car driving on the wrong side of the road without lights on in Waikanae last night.
When the occupants of the car saw police they crashed into another vehicle before ramming a police car and driving off, he said.
About 9.45pm, police spotted the same car and were following it along State Highway 1 near Marycrest, Te Horo when the driver lost control on a bend.
The car crossed the centre line and collided with a southbound vehicle.
The driver was thrown from the car and received serious injuries. The two women from the second car also received serious injuries.
All three were taken to hospital.
