Three people are seriously injured following a car crash near the Christchurch town of Prebbleton.

A police spokesperson says two cars collided at the intersection of Trices and Longstaffs Road, just before 7pm.

They say one person was trapped and had to be pulled from one of the vehicles.

Police say a tow-truck cleared the scene and cordons have now been lifted.
