Three injured after ammonia leak at Fonterra plant

Three Fonterra contractors suffered minor injuries after an ammonia spill at the diary giant's Whareroa site.

A Fonterra spokesman said the three contractors required medical attention after the spill, but they were not believed to have been seriously affected.

The spill took place at about 1.30pm, with local emergency services and Fonterra's emergency response team dealing with the leak.

Roads to the site have now been reopened.
