Three people were killed on the country's roads at the weekend.
A 45-year-old Taranaki woman was found dead in her upturned car in the Mangatoki Stream between Kaponga and Eltham in Taranaki yesterday morning.
The woman had failed to return home on Saturday morning and a family member found the car, said Senior Constable Jono Erwood of Stratford police.
The serious crash unit was investigating and the woman's death had been referred to the coroner, he said.
One man was killed and a woman badly injured after a two-car crash on State Highway 2 in northern Waikato early yesterday.
The accident happened at Mangatawhiri, 11km northwest of Maramarua, about 6.30am.
On Saturday afternoon, a motorcyclist was killed after failing to take a bend on Middle Rd, south of Hastings.
The 33-year-old rider and father of three was heading north and negotiating a sweeping bend when he came off the road, crashing into a fence. A police spokesman said he lived locally, though his name had not been released yet.
He died at the scene. His female passenger, riding pillion, was taken to hospital.
