Three defendants in a corruption case allegedly involving more than $1 million of Auckland public body roading contracts have been remanded for a case review hearing in July.
They are engineering management firm chief Stephen James Borlase, 50, former Rodney District Council and Auckland Transport manager Barrie Kenneth James George, 68, and a third defendant who has today gained an extension of an interim name suppression order.
George, who faces four charges of accepting bribes from Borlase, and the third defendant, who faces six such charges, were remanded without plea from North Shore District Court this morning.
Borlase, who has stepped down temporarily as head of his firm Projenz (2005) Ltd but says he will fight eight charges of corruption and four of misusing invoices to the former Rodney council for financial gain, was remanded earlier without plea.
All three will reappear in court on July 16 for a case review of the charges, all laid by the Serious Fraud Office under the Crimes Act, and all carrying penalties of up to seven years' imprisonment.
