Three people are lucky to have escaped major injury after their car collided with a train, near New Plymouth.
Inspector Marty Parker says the car crossed an uncontrolled railway crossing at the intersection of Clearview Road and State Highway 3A shortly after 11.
The car, carrying an adult and two children, was shunted down the railway tracks for about two hundred metres.
The three occupants have minor injuries.
