A council report on caravans at Coronation Park showed there were concerns about arrangements that may undercut local commercial campground operations.
A 30-year exemption that allows members of the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association to camp overnight on an unused part of Coronation Park has expired.
Officers are proposing granting a new short-term exemption for the NZMCA members, who pay a $5 donation for each self-contained camper using the site.
The
donations go towards supporting junior rugby in Martinborough.
A council report said there had been concerns raised as to whether this arrangement undercut local commercial campground operations.
A paper would be prepared for the Infrastructure and Planning Working Party looking at the issues around freedom camping in the South Wairarapa towns. The paper is expected to be presented at the Infrastructure and Planning Working Party meeting in August.
