One person has died and three others are seriously injured in three separate car crashed in the North Island today.
A man has died in a head-on collision on State Highway One, between Russel Rd and Old North Rd, north of Whangarei.
He'd been driving north, when the accident happened shortly before one this afternoon, trapping him and another woman in another car in the wreckage.
The woman, who'd been in a southbound car, has been transported to Whangarei Hospital with serious injuries. A man who had been travelling with her is uninjured.
A scene examination is underway and the highway is expected to remain closed for another two to three hours.
