KEY POINTS:
Police have named three people who died in a car crash in north Waikato on Saturday.
Johnston Te Areawaru Kenny, 20, Thomas Whati De Thierry, 20, and Marie Arauei Walters, 47, died following a crash on Glenn Murray Rd at Rangiriri, just north of Huntly, Newstalk ZB reported.
Senior Sergeant Peter Simpson of Huntly Police said it appeared a Toyota van being driven by Ms Walters was struck by a red Honda Civic car that the driver lost control of on a moderate bend.
Police said it appeared the car's tyres did not have sufficient tread to maintain traction and heavy rain at the time made driving conditions difficult and visibility poor, Newstalk ZB reported.
