Wellington police have seized three vehicles after a woman was killed as she crossed a street.
Amy Margaret Edward-Mintorn, 23, of Wellington, was hit by two cars as she crossed Cambridge Tce near College Street about 1.40am on Sunday.
Although the vehicles initially stopped, one car left soon after the crash and before police arrived.
Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter said a red Toyota Trueno was seized at the crash scene.
A white two-door Subaru coupe and a silver/grey four-door Subaru were also seized last night and the drivers and passengers of all the cars were being interviewed.
Mr Cotter did not say if the cars were racing each other. Police serious-crash investigators, detectives and Environmental Science and Research (ESR) forensic specialists will examine the three vehicles in the coming days.
It was "really important" to find people who were in other vehicles in the area around the time of the crash, particularly those travelling directly behind the cars police seized, he said.
Police are also searching closed-circuit television footage as part of the inquiry.
