Three people have been injured, one critically, after a three-car pile-up near Otaki.
Two helicopters are helping ferry the injured to hospital after the crash, on the corner of SH1 and Otaki Gorge Rd, just south of the Otaki South Bridge at 9.45am.
Police have confirmed three people were injured, one is in a critical condition, another serious and a third is in a moderate condition.
Diversions are in place at Te Horo and Old Gorge Rd to allow two helicopters from Wellington and Palmerston North to land.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
