A woman has become the latest road fatality in Northland after the vehicle she was driving collided with two others heading in the opposite direction.
The three-car crash happened hear a sharp bend on State Highway 1, just north of the Towai Tavern, about 3pm today. It pushed this year's road death toll to 31 so far this year compared with 27 for the whole of last year.
Today's crash happened just two days after two women and a man were killed in a four-vehicle accident on SH1 at Oakleigh on Wednesday.
Road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Row said a Subaru Justy driven by a female heading south crossed the centre line and smashed into a northbound vehicle, forcing it off the road.
A couple were travelling in that car.
