KEY POINTS:
Three men have been arrested after two men were assaulted in the Bay of Plenty last night.
One 18-year-old victim remained in a serious, but stable condition in Waikato Hospital with serious head injuries today.
The second victim, also 18, received less serious injuries and was discharged from Tauranga Hospital this morning.
The pair were attacked after attending a function in Bethlehem Town Hall, just north of Tauranga.
Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said today the two were standing in the street outside the hall when they were approached by three occupants of a car about 10.30pm.
A fight broke out, during which the two young men were knocked to the ground and badly beaten.
Their attackers fled the scene in a car travelling north.
Three men, aged 15, 17 and 22 were arrested today.
They have been jointly charged with assault and injuring with intent to injure.
They will appear in Tauranga Youth Court tomorrow.
Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the attack.
