Masterton was the second-hottest location in the country on Saturday, which did not slow down the thousands flocking to Wings Over Wairarapa 2015 over Saturday and Sunday.
While Friday was a "practice day", Saturday saw the best of the weather, with light winds allowing the World War I aircraft to get aloft and thrill the public with mock dogfights.
The Wairarapa Times-Age was invited aboard Air Chathams' DC3 "Powhaitere" for a morning flight from Hood Aerodrome to Martinborough and back, before the runway was taken up with serious airshow business.
With stronger north-westerlies on Sunday the biplanes were restricted, but the crowd were thrilled with a repeat of Saturday's low high-speed flypasses, notably from the elderly de Havilland Vampire jet.
Hands-on military experiences were on offer on the weekend, with a substantial queue to walk through the RNZAF C130 Hercules explore and the rear of the air force's latest toy, the NH90 helicopter from 3 Squadron Ohakea.
