Thousands of Kiwis across the country performed a "Super Haka" at 12.30pm today to show their solidarity with the people of Christchurch.
The Super Haka, organised by Ngai Tahu and Supershuttle, was performed simultaneously in Auckland's Aotea Square, Odlins Plaza in Wellington, and the Octagon in Dunedin, as well as the car park of the CBS Arena in Christchurch.
The haka, composed especially for the event, begins with the call "Otautahi - maraka, maraka" meaning "Christchurch - rise up, rise up".
The event was raising money for the Christchurch Mayoral Fund.
Speaking after the Auckland Super Haka, All Black legend Michael Jones said the event was a way Aucklanders could show their support for Cantabrians.
"About a thousand Aucklanders doing one haka, with one breath, I think it is quite special."
