The Crusaders rugby team have officially been handed the keys to Christchurch following their fifth Super 12 triumph at the weekend.
The city's Cathedral Square was packed with an estimated 5000 fans for a victory parade at which captain Richie McCaw again lifted the trophy.
Christhchurch mayor Garry Moore, making the presentation, told fans the players were the leaders of the South Island tribe.
He said the freedom of the city was a gift to the Crusaders, to say thank you for leading the city so well.
Fans also had the chance to meet and greet the players and congratulate them on their victory.
The Crusaders beat the Waratahs 35-25 at Jade Stadium on Saturday night.
