Fifteen thousand New Zealanders turned out in Auckland today for the People's Climate March, urging the government to take decisive and swift action on climate change.
The 30-odd New Zealand marches have kicked off a further 2000 taking place around the world today, prior to the UN Paris Climate Talks, which begin on Monday.
March organiser Steve Abel said it was by far the biggest climate change march in New Zealand history.
Chants of "1, 2, 3, 4, fossil fuels are out the door" and "2, 4, 6, 8, action now - it's not too late " rang out on Auckland's Queen Street, prior to a mass haka, which was a challenge to both New Zealand and international governments and policy makers attending the Paris summit.
