Thousands expected at Christchurch Santa Parade

Thousands are expected to turn out to Christchurch's Santa Parade this afternoon.

Organisers says it's a beautiful day for the parade but are hoping it won't get too much hotter.

At 12.30 this afternoon the temperature was already 29 degrees, three above the forecast high.

Parade manager Pam Morris says they have something for everyone.

"Lots of excitement, something for everybody, and Christchurch is always like that.

"We've got special characters, we've got bands, we've got ethnic groups, we're expecting a big crowd."

The parade will stretch out over two kilometres.
