Court staff had to dig into the archives on Tuesday to resolve an outstanding warrant for dangerous driving, dating back more than 30 years.
Terrance Michael Read was recently stopped in Kaiata by police, who discovered there was an outstanding warrant against him - issued in the Greymouth District Court back in 1983.
A police spokesman said the warrant was not executed due to its age, so it was withdrawn. Judge Tony Couch quipped that "warrants never sleep".
