An Auckland couple on a lucky streak have won more than $6 million in Lotto's Big Wednesday.
Lotteries Commission chief Todd McLeay yesterday said the couple's $6,087,905 prize was the third windfall they had received in recent weeks.
Their identity is being kept secret at their request, but they are believed to be from the Orakei area, near where they buy tickets twice a week from Eastridge Lotto. They collected their big win in Wellington yesterday.
The winning woman told the Lotteries Commission: "I felt sick, and haven't been able to eat, and have lost weight in the past two days, but we also feel wonderful, and can't wait to share this great experience with each other.
"We won a trip to Sydney with a competition, then we won a Second Chance draw at our local Lotto store, and now this - it really does come in threes. My husband can retire now."
Anne Barker, who with her husband John Barker has owned Eastridge Lotto for 14 years, said the couple, in their mid-60s, came in together every Wednesday to buy a $12 Big Wednesday ticket.
"They're an ordinary, everyday couple. They live in the area, they've got a grown-up family."
On Wednesday, Mrs Barker shocked another customer checking a ticket with news of an $85,000 win.
