Third serious workplace incident in as many weeks in Christchurch

Another serious workplace incident has been reported in Christchurch — the third in as many weeks.

Emergency services were called to a Branston St, Hornby commercial premises about 8.20am.

“One person has been taken to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition,” said a St John spokesperson.

Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Jill Higginson said they were still assisting with the ambulance response.

“We have responded with crews from Wigram and Spreydon,” she said.

WorkSafe has been notified and is making initial inquiries.

It follows a string of workplace-related incidents in Christchurch in recent weeks.

One person died at the scene of a Humes NZ site on Carmen Rd on Tuesday.

Police are investigating the death on behalf of the Coroner.

On October 4, a Christchurch contractor doing a routine job on a crane tyre was killed when it exploded, with colleagues witnessing the horror scene.

Brian Whiteman was a “loved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and work colleague”.
