A Nelson school has been set on fire this morning, the third school arson in a month.
Police have arrested and charged a 22-year-old man with arson after a fire was lit at Tahunanui School about 12.20am today.
Firefighters put the fire out but one classroom received fire damage to an exterior wall, and smoke and water damage to the interior, police said.
Police patrols found a man in a vehicle nearby and when spoken to he admitted setting fire to the classroom, they said.
He would appear in Nelson District Court today.
The fire follows similar school arsons at Bay of Island's Kerikeri High School, which lost up to four classrooms, and south Auckland's Mangere East School, which also lost several class rooms.
Two boys, aged 13 and 14, were arrested in relation to the Mangere attack.
